The Competition Was Fierce

Weather-Mid 60’s and mosquito filled

Welcome to spring in SW Florida, where every mosquito migrates to from the north.  And you all thought they just died in the winter!!

With a smaller than usual crew, it was time to share the disclaimer and head off on the mosey…wait, what is that?  The pax was quickly distracted by a strange light in the park so we mosyed our way with butt kickers, Nur, High Knees and carioca x2 only to find out that it was a light from one of the many scoreboards.  Nothing exciting to see here.

With the slightly extended mosey over, we circled up for COP including:

  • 20 SSH IC
  • 10 Finkle Swings(L)
  • 10 Finkle Swings (R)
  • 20 Overhead claps IC

YHC was too excited to stay in the COP any longer, as competition awaited the pax!  We split in two teams, Clutch/DeFib vs. Bing/Kotter/Banjo.  11 cards were placed at the end of the parking lot.  Each card had two exercises awaiting them.  The one with the count had to be done by every team member before the next card was retrieved.  The second exercise was to be done by all teammates while the runner went and picked up their next card.  While Runner 1 starts, the teams were in the plank position.  Cards were as follows:

  • 40 SSH in Cadence/American Hammers
  • 30 Monkey Humpers/Freddie Mercuries
  • 20 Diamond Merkins/LBCs
  • 30 Sumo Squats/Lunges
  • Dealer’s Choice/Nolan Ryans
  • 15 Seal Team Sit-ups/Elbow Plank
  • 1 lap around the circle/Shoulder Taps
  • 25 Burpees/Overhead Claps
  • 30 Merkins/High Knees in place
  • 25 Mountain Climbers in cadence/Calf Raises
  • 13 Donkey Kicks/Dying Cockroach

Round 1 began and team Clutch/Defib grabbed the 25 Burpee card right off the start!  But they battled through and came up victorious by claiming 6 of the 11 cards.  We moseyed over to a lighter/less traffic filled part of the lot for round 2.  This time, Kotter snagged the 25 Burpee card on his first grab, just to share the pain!  Again, Clutch and Defib grabbed 6 of the 11 cards for victory in round 2!

Next up was 3 rounds of 4 corners.  Starting with 10 reps, adding 10 at each corner of the lot up to 40 reps, the pax did the following:

  • LBCs
  • Sumo Squats
  • Carolina Dry Docks

With only 1 minute remaining, we ended with AMRAP SSH until the hour struck.

This AO continues to provide great  challenges for the Pax, including the challenge of staying out of the way of the vehicles of the Baltimore Orioles coming to work out or train.  Silly them, why must the go inside to workout when they could just use the great parking lot?!?

YHC shared a comment on Facebook from an acquaintance of mine whose daughter was involved in the terrible social media video in Alabama.  The fear of every father was realized when this video was posted.  His daughter was part of a hate filled conversation, one that is against the morals and values taught by the family.  The challenge to the pax was to have a conversation with your children.  Share the outcome of this conversation so they are aware of the consequences of their actions.  Most importantly, remind them to always walk and talk with God in our hearts and walk in His way.  It is critical to stay true to yourself and not engage in conversations/actions of a group just to fit in.  Prayers for those who are hurt by this video and prayers for the teens who were in the video, so that they can find peace and love in their hearts.
