Tying in with the March month long awareness of Mental Illness, I wanted to help prepare the Pax for GR18.  The biggest part of a successful GrowRuck is overcoming the mental aspects  of it.

With that said, the combination of mental awareness and the mental training for a GR was the focus of today’s beatdown.

Story of one of our F3 Savana Pax, Doughboy, who had a heart attack and a story of a family man of middle age who was out to dinner, had a heart attack and died. Both of these men were healthy and fit.

As we work through our beatdown, we were asked to think of what you would do or say if today was your last day on earth. Are you ready? Your family? God? Or satisfied with who you are?

All lined up on one side of the parking lot.

Ruckers:

1 Round =Run to the opposite side of the parking lot, do 20 Burpees, return & perform 20 Thrashers

 Non-Ruckers:

1 Round =   Run to the opposite side of the parking lot, do 20 exercises, return & perform 20 exercises

20 Rounds and no mumble chatter or talking, complete silence

COT: 18 Count, Namarama, Part of this morning included being silent was to prepare for the mental challenges when faced with doing a long, monotonous task. For this exercise, you’ll find out what you are capable of doing, your will, and your inner strengths. You’ll rely on yourself and not others in this exercise. Instructions and directions were given, but it was to determine who was listening closely and following directions. Are you able to complete a task and at the same time, stay in the right frame of mind to pay attention and be aware of what’s happening around you.  Reason why this will play an important role, is during growruck,  the cadres are wanting to  ensure we all are following directions to the exact points. If we get out in the middle of a swamp or beach at 3am and we don’t follow directions, it could jeopardize someone’s safety or alter a plan unexpectedly. As mentioned, I believe we are physically ready, however I want to ensure that we are mentally ready as well. If we aren’t, the Cadres will surely know, and 50 SSHs will be nothing, compared to what they may bring. There will be opportunities to excel and stand out as leaders, however I don’t want any of us to stand out for the wrong reason.

You all did extremely well this morning and I know that I can confidently say, you all will do us proud. Thank you for supporting me and understanding what message I was hoping to communicate to you.

GR18 will be a challenge to say the least, however I know we will all be going through it all together, Hard core Shieldlocks in play!

  1. I want to applaud my brother @Lancelot for a bold Q move this morning… Its not easy to get a group of 18 HIM’s to “zip it” for 45 minutes and not get some grumble-chatter.

I also want to applaud the pax present for doing it well. The silence treatment was impactful!

We had discussion at the coffeetorium following the beatdown that was relating to the implication that we arrive in the gloom to follow the Q’s leading. It seems to be implied, but sometimes we need a bit of reminding I think.

Accelerating our fitness takes being pushed outside our current comfort zones. You can stay within your comfort zone by fartsacking, but i will admit to staying within mine at far too many workouts also
