The BackBlast:

Two weeks ago at the Hamer, Pincher came in hot, cursing up a storm that, once again, he had missed Bing’s PR time for the North Loop Strava segment…  and thus, the ‘Beat Bing’s PR’ run was inspired.

Today was the day, and we’d have to run through soup:  72 degrees, 85% humidity.  A few PAX showed for and EC warmup mile, loose, but focused on the task at hand.  At 0515 sharp — much to the surprise of Yamaha — we set out on our quest.  Fireball rode the pace bike for Pincher, Spinal Tap, and YHC.  Steady through two miles at 7:30 pace — fast enough to beat Bing’s PR, but YHC was already breathing like Enron, and soon fell back off the pace as Spinal Tap pulled ahead.

The rest of the run was a blurry slog through the pain cave.  Around mile 4 Yamaha came strolling past looking like he could go another 15 miles at that pace.  He had started about a minute behind, but ended up passing all of us except maybe Spinal Tap.  Yamaha finished strong posting a PR and the third fastest time on the North Loop leader board.

Spinal Tap said he ran 31 minutes.  Nobody saw him finish and he didn’t have his watch so we’ll have to take him at his word.  No Strava credit, but he had already beaten Bing’s PR.

Enron ran steady and beat his own PR by 25 seconds.  In his words:  “Slower than the fast guys, but faster than myself.”  YHC can identify.

Where was Gridlock in all of this?  He already had the course record on the North Loop, but he didn’t have the Big loop, the Small loop or the Figure 8 (as demonstrated by YHC’s audacious post last week).  So he went out on his own and took the course record for all three.  And I dare say, they’ll all stand longer than one week  (or will they? Defib?  Goob?  Tap? Yamaha?)

YHC did not beat Bing’s PR, but he did beat his own PR by over two minutes.  Next time will be with cooler weather and better pacing.

And finally, the moment you’ve all been waiting for …  after nearly three years of trying …

PINCHER BEAT BING’S PR!!!

He took more than a minute off of his own PR, and has set the bar for Bing to knock 28 seconds off of his time to reclaim the throne in this epic battle.

All were excited and loose for COT.  No injuries, and everyone had a PR through adverse conditions.

Stay tuned for … Bing’s Revenge!

Presumably coming soon at the Hamer.
