The BackBlast:

Weather: We’ve had worse, cool 54 to start with some nasty wind

Pre-Ride EC, Ripken, Sniper, and YHC managed to say 3:44 sleep and were at Wawa at 5 am. We volunteered ourselves to Ripken’s scheme from the night before of a non-chatter pace of the old classic Cottontail inspired “F3  Wawa Cycling Loop 2.0” Strava segment. So off we went, with the tailwind to start and a Zipp style pace. Once the turn at Fruitville came and the wind turned to a headwind we started to separate, Ripken crouched low on his aero was the only PAX to complete the full segment, dude you are a beast.

We meet the fellow PAX for the usual launch time of 6 am. Apparently YHC was on Q this gloom and since the loop wasn’t completed earlier figured it be good to rinse and repeat. After a quick COT and prayer off we went, holding down a decent pace and as we made that headwind turn YHC noticed the time as a group wasn’t bad at all, damn near a PR time. So why not step it up and see where it would end up at. YHC encouraged the PAX to take small short pulls and pick up the pace but the headwind was strong and cause some PAX to fall back. Dogo was fierce staying strong and on my 6, so we took the challenge and continued to pushed on. Now some of you that read the title will wonder, well here it comes…Dogo just finished a pull and handed off to YHC and just shortly after there was a little tug on the left back side of YHC tire, well that what you call a Dogo Rub apparently. YHC is just glad he played it gentle and it was more of a tap than a knockout, so we pressed on.

The PR’s for the loop wasn’t meant to be broken today as there were a few of us that posted close times but all fell short. I do believe that if Bing had come back to Wawa or if Sniper used Strava there would have been 2 PRs today though. It was fun to lay it down with the PAX, we all are getting stronger and it’s one of my favorite AO’s. We’ll get that PR time another day.
