The BackBlast:

1st Tuesday of the month, so HILLS (and segment hunting)!!  A special challenge today with a somewhat obscure Strava segment. “I75 Bridge Sprint West” is a very short 0.19 mile segment, with a diabolical start point just after the crest of the westbound Linger Lodge I75 overpass, and ending a little beyond the base of the overpass. If executed properly, cyclists will be in violation of the 30 mph posted speed limit at some point during the segment. The key for this segment is when to hammer down on the ascent up the overpass. Too soon and you’ll flame out. Too late and you won’t hit top speed and top gear at the start point.

Pax took the typical route to the hill via Hidden River Trail, LWR Blvd and Clubhouse through Braden Woods. All pax completed 3 of the usual approx 1.8 mile round trip loops from 93rd (Braden Woods) to Tara Blvd, which included the shorter targeted westbound segment.

Ripken took the cheese @ 23sec and was the only rider to exceed 30mph average (30.9 mph). Pincher @ 24sec (29.6mph average) for the silver, YHC on the podium @ 25sec and Bing @ 26sec.  All pax certainly hit 30mph at some point on the segment.

YHC escorted the other 3 riders to Clubhouse and returned home while the others returned to Wawa. Pincher tired of the slow pace and constant chatter, sometimes at the front of the group, so he took off ahead on the return trip. No accidents and no flats; a great ride today and a real burner of a segment.

Prayers for 2.0’s and Yamaha’s ankle to heal before a skunk Ape.

Thanks for trusting me to lead and for the push today!

Brutus OUT!!
